NATO Asks:  Is It Time To Talk To The Taliban?

According to an article released by the AP Today, (NATO to meet as Afghan war effort founders dated October 8th,2008), when NATO leaders meet in Budapest on Thursday to discuss the worsening situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan some of the NATO leaders both military and political are asking  "Is it time to talk to the Taliban?

According to the article even Defense Secretary Robert Gates, has endorsed efforts to reach out to members of the Taliban considered willing to seek an accommodation with President Hamid Karzai's government.  "That is one of the key long-term solutions in Afghanistan, just as it has been in Iraq," Gates told reporters Monday. "Part of the solution is reconciliation with people who are willing to work with the Afghan government going forward."

The Biggest Mistake The World Will Ever Make

Dealing with these subhuman cavemen would be the biggest mistake that the world will ever make.  In all honesty if it wasn't for an untimely invasion into Iraq for what appeared to be an easy in and out for the Bush administration to gain revenues for the big oil companies of America ( it backfired and China and others got the best oil contracts not America) that turned into a nightmare for American military families.  If it wasn't for the bad decision based on lies we wouldn't be in a posture, dare I say, of  waving the the white flag of surrender in Afghanistan and Pakistan today.   Resources would have been diverted to where the bad guys really are in Afghanistan and Pakistan.  America had a rightful mandate in 2001 and we were lied to. The entire world was willing to go into Afghanistan with us and get the terrorists that did this to their American friends.  We went in and then we left for Iraq without even getting an autograph from Osama and other top Al Qaeda members.   DO not feel bad, I bought it hook line and sinker.  If you are going to feel bad, feel bad for the bravest soldiers to ever wear an American uniform.  They live in the open waiting to draw fire from the enemy.  They obeyed their commander and chief that led them away from Afghanistan and into Iraq.  They were bogged down and thousands of our best were lost in the name of the "War on Terrorism" even though the ones responsible for the tragedy were no where near Iraq.  If America can not afford to fail in Iraq how can we afford to fail in Afghanistan.  If we deal with the Taliban after years of tough talk about never negotiating with terrorists or Iran or anyone else that the Bush administration chose not to speak to why would it now be wise to cut deals with the very people that brought down the World Trade Centers  and killed over three thousand Americans in a single day.  Are the Taliban not the terrorists?  They said they can never turn over what they consider one of their own cultural heroes Osama bin Laden to America.

I can not emphasize enough that this strategy makes no sense to me it is the biggest surrender in the history of our America.  For years we have been subjected to bipartisan politics as to continuing the fight and that "this is not a war we can afford to lose and now to hear the American Secretary of Defense say that maybe it is time to bring in regiments of the Taliban that may work with the Afghanistan government the way that the groups in Iraq were brought together.  There is a big difference here.  In Iraq, we were dealing with sectarian violence.  In Afghanistan we are fighting an ideology.  The difference is night and day.    If he does not grasp this notion he needs to resign.

It is tough.  The right thing to do is to win the war on terror.  That is what American soldiers lost their lives for.  The war that America can not afford to lose is the war in Afghanistan. I agree that once we were in Iraq we were in.  Right or wrong.  Lies or truth.  Who am I kidding we all have to agree that the reasons for letting Osama off the hook  and running to the oil fields of Iraq were based on lies. Regardless we were in and we had an obligation to honor our fallen by winning in Iraq.  In the world picture the war that we can not lose is and always was in Afghanistan.  This war will not be over until we have bin Laden and company either dead or temporarily alive.  We should never deal with them until they provide us the Al Qaeda leaders at the top.  That means Osama bin Laden, Ayman al Zawarhi as well as the rest of the terrorists that planned, plotted and carried out one of the darkest days in American history.  We should not rest until they are all executed as well as Taliban leader Muhammad Omar  who refused to cooperate with America after 911.  He provided them with the safe haven to carry out the attacks on America, so he is equally responsible.  We can not disrespect the lives that have been lost in the name of the "War on Terror" by saying we can't afford to lose in Iraq but we can afford to lose in Afghanistan.  If  the Taliban rules Afghanistan again, which they will with this type of thinking, there will be much more terrorism against America in the future.  In all reality if we start cutting deals with the Taliban we shouldn't have done anything at all in the first place.  That would be unimaginable to this American.

Just in Case we Forgot who the Taliban Are?

Maulawi Mohammed Hanif, Taliban  Commander Announcing their policy to a crowd of 300
people summoned to a mosque [after killing15,000 Hazaras people in a day]  " Hazaras are not Muslim. You can kill them. It is not a sin." Mullah Manon Niazi

" We do not need women to work. What positive roles can they play in the society? What is the impact of their roles? We do not need women. They should stay in their houses.  Mullah Manon Niazi. Taliban leader and appointed Governor of Mazar-e Sharif

" Some people believe in these statues and pray to them ... If people say these are not our beliefs but only part of the history of Afghanistan, then all we are breaking are stones."   Mullah Muhammad Omar Taliban Supreme Leader on the destruction of 2000 year old Buddhist statues.

"The use of opium is wrong, but the selling is not wrong according to Islamic law" Mullah Omar - the Taliban Supreme Leader

Never has any group been more controversial then the Taliban of Afghanistan. Patrolling the streets in the pickup trucks, the Taliban members, under the General Department for the Preservation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Amr-bil Maroof Wa Nahi Anil Munkar), search houses and destroy any television sets, radios, cassettes, and photographs. The bands of Taliban thugs roam the streets beating those they deem to be violators of the Shariah (Islamic code of Law) [2]. The Taliban's harsh fundamentalist rule has dismantled all civil institutions, and closed all women Institutions. Their leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar, cloaks himself in secrecy, refusing to grant interviews or allow his photo to be taken.

During its 1996-2001 rule, Afghan women and girls were barred from attending school or holding jobs, music and television were banned, men were compelled to wear beards, and artwork or statues deemed idolatrous or anti-Muslim were destroyed.

Public hangings were a regular event in stadiums.  Stoning to death of any female that was "believed" to be acting non-Muslim in the Taliban's eyes.

Come on, These are the bad guys.  Lets finish what they started.  We lose here we lose the entire war on terror.  The War in Afghanistan is the most important battlefield always was and always will be until someone in the War on Terror wins.  If we let the Taliban back in they will within five years rule not only Afghanistan but Nuclear Armed Pakistan.  I don't think we will be worrying so much about Iran if this happens.
